We couldn’t escape it—it just kept on happening. At a workshop I facilitated last week with members of the Emerging Leaders Program of a strong midwest manufacturer, the phrase, “Depends on your Audience” was vocalized repeatedly.
It happened so much that I proposed it should be a bumper sticker.
But, with our customized workshop focus on being excellent communicators it makes total sense, doesn’t it?
With Audience being the first and final consideration of any communicator who’s crafting a message, any decision about content and delivery of that message is answered by who the Audience is. Who YOUR Audience is, right?
And after all, Audience is the first “A” of the 4-A Way of Communicating, an easy to use and remember way of crafting and debriefing
messages I put together while observing and coaching hundreds of communicators. Add Atmosphere, Action and Actor and you have a comprehensive map to navigate even the toughest Audiences.
Who’s your Audience? Do you know them? Do you actively seek their input before, during and after you engage with them? And, have you run out of fresh stuff for them because you think you’ve got them figured out?
Mostly–are you getting them what they want?
Well, that “depends”. On YOU!
Your stage, your performance. You’re ON!
